PRN (Help as Needed) Birth Center

Kareena, a Jamaican born native, migrated to South Florida as a young child. From early on in life she knew she wanted to help people but wasn’t sure how she would do that. After receiving her Bachelor’s in Health Services Administration (BHSA) in 2003, Kareena worked for a small Anesthesia practice in Delray Beach, FL. Though fulfilling, the feeling of wanting to do more for patients’ was always present. It was then that Kareena decided to pursue nursing as a lifelong career. Kareena received her Associate Degree in Nursing in 2008, relocated to Atlanta, GA in September of 2009, got married in October of 2009 and celebrated the birth of her and her husband’s first child in July 2010. Kareena worked in a medical/surgical setting but always enjoyed babies and aspired to one day be a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurse. It wasn’t until her husband insisted she watch a documentary called, The Business of Being Born, that her quest in life was forever changed. She then became a Doula, and set out to help empower women choose for themselves, how they wanted to give birth. Still working as a nurse and doula, Kareena received her Bachelor’s in Nursing in 2013 after the birth of their second son. At that time she was working in high risk pregnancy which propelled a position into labor & delivery. Having the background of a doula, Kareena was able to educate, support and be present for her patients, albeit mostly in a hospital setting. Eventually she was known amongst her peers as “the natural delivery” nurse. The Universe must’ve heard Kareena, because in 2016 Atlanta Birth Center (ABC) was opened. This was absolutely thrilling, finally, a birthing center in Atlanta. Kareena has been with ABC since November 2016 as a Birth Assistant RN and Home Visit RN. Kareena recently obtained her Master’s in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Administration/Leadership. Kareena enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, her professional photography “hobby,” hiking and running. Now a mom of three BOYS, she and her husband can’t wait for their next adventure!
