Mandi Rae Call, BSN, RN, CPM

PRN (Help as Needed) Birth Center Nurse

Mandi had her first peek into the midwifery model of care with the birth of her third child in a large obstetric hospital. Where she felt abandoned by her obstetric provider, she was cradled by a nurse midwife asking, “what does your body need to do?” This simple question led to the change in Mandi's career trajectory from medical school following her first bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and pre-Med to Midwifery and healthcare for childbearing persons.

In 2008, Mandi began her apprenticeship and didactic training to become a Certified Professional Midwife in 2012. She owned a small home birth practice for the next six years with a holistic and evidence-based clinical philosophy. In 2018, she began Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University and graduated summa cum laude in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation, she pivoted to the pediatric cardiac ICU, embracing high acuity patients and bringing her midwifery training to the continuity of care she provided.

While easing through the COVID-19 pandemic, she again shifted her focus back to her first love, caring for childbearing persons– only this time as a nurse. She’s excited to be part of Atlanta Birth Center in the role of Nurse Manager, providing safe, equitable, holistic, and family-centered care with an incredible team that aligns with her personal mission. She remains committed to community involvement and advancing legislation addressing maternal mortality, equitable and accessible care for childbearing persons, reproductive justice, and care accountability.

Mandi Rae lives with her youngest child (born at home with a midwife in 2010) and husband of over 20 years. Her oldest recently graduated from college and is newly engaged while the other two attend college out-of-state and overseas. Though work and home keep her busy, it’s her two dogs that keep her heart grounded as she learns to embrace the changing seasons of her life with an almost empty nest.
